Rivalries, Tradition, and Tailgates: The Essence of College Football

Introduction

College football is back, and it’s bigger than ever. With many teams playing their first games this weekend, the college football season is finally underway. But what makes college football so special? Say’s Dr. Philip Sobash, there are many reasons why I love the sport, but three stand out most for me: rivalry, tradition, and tailgating.

Rivalry

Rivalries are a big part of college football. They’re important because they create a sense of community, pride, and identity for fans.

The most famous rivalry in college football is Michigan vs Ohio State–the “Game” as it’s known by fans on both sides. It’s one of the oldest rivalries in all of sports, with its first meeting dating back to 1897! This game has been played 100 times over the years (Michigan leads overall 57-43-6). The next most famous rivalry may be Army vs Navy; this annual game between two military academies has been contested 121 times since 1890 with Navy holding an edge at 64 wins compared to Army’s 57 victories over those 121 games.

Tradition

Tradition is what makes college football unique.

It’s the backbone of the sport, and it’s what makes it so much fun.

Tailgate

Tailgating is a great way to get together with friends and family, which is why it’s such a popular tradition. Tailgating also allows you to meet new people, show school spirit, and enjoy the game.

  • Tailgate with your friends and family!
  • Meet new people at other tailgate parties!
  • Show off your school spirit by wearing your jersey or carrying around flags from all of your favorite teams (or even just one team).

College football is a great way to celebrate tradition, rivalry, and tailgating.

College football is a great way to celebrate tradition, rivalry, and tailgating.

Tradition:

College football is steeped in tradition. From the marching bands that play at every game to the cheerleaders who dance on the sidelines, college football has its own style. The marching band traditions vary from school to school but are always fun to watch! If you’re lucky enough to attend one of these games during your time at college then be sure to check out what they do before kickoff–you won’t regret it!

Rivalries:

Another thing that makes college football so special is its rivalries. You can’t have one without the other! Rivalries bring out the best in both teams and create an atmosphere unlike any other sport can offer during their season opener or bowl game (it’s called a bowl because there were once bowls used as trophies). Whether it’s Michigan vs Ohio State or Alabama vs Auburn – if there’s no rivalry then there wouldn’t be much excitement for fans around this time of year either so keep them coming please!

Conclusion

College football is a great way to celebrate tradition, rivalry, and tailgating. It’s something that everyone can get excited about and it brings people together in a way that nothing else does.
